Maine High Adventure Area provides a challenging outdoor program offered by the Boy Scouts of America. Each summer hundreds of Scouts and Venturers enjoy unique backcountry experiences in northern Maine. The area encompasses Mount Katahdin, the Allagash Waterway, a portion of the Appalachian Trail and the Penobscot watershed - more than 10,000 square miles of the north Maine woods which remains much as Henry David Thoreau saw it 140 years ago. A highly trained MHA guide is assigned to help each crew enjoy a successful adventure. Although treks involve the areas described above, the initial destination is the base camp operation - Matagamon High Adventure Base, located at the northeast corner of Baxter State Park on Grand Lake Matagamon, 27 miles northwest of Patten, Maine. Canoeing, backpacking, hiking, and high adventure camping are involved.

16 Scouts have signed up for this High Adventure trip. To maintain their eligibility for this trip Scouts signed up must remember their commitment to the training and preparation plans, participation in the Troop program, and rank advancement.

All adults that are participating were selected by the Committee Chairman, Scoutmaster, and trip planners on the basis of their commitment to the Troop, to completing the requested training, and to being responsible trip leaders and crew advisors.
