1997 Troop Jamboree Pictures  

Location

The 1997 National Scout Jamboree was held from July 28 through August 5, 1997, at Fort A. P. Hill near Fredericksburg, Va. This is the historic area of Washington, D.C.; and Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, Richmond and Norfolk, Va.

Theme

The theme for the jamboree was "Character Counts... Be Prepared for the 21st Century".

Objectives

The goals of the 1997 jamboree were to

Participants

The Jamboree was planned for about 35,000 participants ­ 30,000 Boy Scouts and troop leaders in 750 troops, plus some 5,000 staff members for support, program, and headquarters services, 4 regional camps, and 19 subcamps.

Activities

Organized programs included aquatics, scuba diving, action centers, conservation, merit badge midway, arena shows, fishing, field sports including archery, shot gun, and pioneering.

Mecklenburg County Council 415

Mecklenburg County Council sent 72 Scouts and 8 Adult Leaders in two contingent troops, 1502 and 1503. Each Troop had 36 Scouts in 4 patrols of 8 Scouts each plus 4 Leadership Scouts, and 4 Adult Leaders. Council Jamboree Shoulder Patches and Order of the Arrow Catawba Lodge 459 Flap Patch representing Scouts and Scouters from the Mecklenburg County Council are shown below.

Troop 116

As part of the Mecklenburg County Council, Troop 116 was well represented. Ten Scouts and three adult leaders from Troop 116 attended as registered participants.

Council Jamboree Shoulder Patches (JSP) & Order of the Arrow Lodge Flap Patch

[Council Jamboree Shoulder Patch - Red Border] Mecklenburg County Council Jamboree Shoulder Patch with the red border is restricted to the Scouts and Leaders attending the Jamboree as members of the two Council Contingent Troops, 1502 and 1503.
[Council Jamboree Shoulder Patch - Silver Border] Mecklenburg County Council Jamboree Shoulder Patch with the silver border is restricted to the Scouts and Scouters attending the Jamboree as members of the Jamboree Staff.
[Council Jamboree Shoulder Patch - Black Border] Mecklenburg County Council Jamboree Shoulder Patch with the black border is for Scouts and Scouters attending the Jamboree as guests. A Tour Permit must be filed before purchase.
[Jamboree Lodge Flap] Catawba Lodge 459 Jamboree Flap Patch is for Order of the Arrow members of Catawba Lodge who are attending the Jamboree as members of the two Council Contingent Troops, the Jamboree Staff, or as guests with a Tour Permit.
